The Millenium Development Goals: a global commitment

Dear POLMUN Participants,

In February 2010 you will have an opportunity to debate crucial issues marring nations all over the world. What makes POLMUN 2010 special is the fact that you as citizens of the world and diplomats are going to focus on the growing gap between the developing and the developed world.

In 2000 leaders of the world drafted eight Millenium Development Goals.
They are as follows:

Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development

Each of the problems addressed by the Millenium Declaration affects every member nation in some way . Hence , there is the need to work together to make sure we achieve these goals and end poverty by 2015.
Now, as we are approaching the year 2010 it is time to assess progress towards MDGs. And, you as Polish Model United Nations delegates are about to do it in the spirit of global cooperation.

'Time is short. We must seize this historic moment to act responsibly and decisively for the common good.'

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
